About William Kleinschmidt, Architect
My practice, begun in 1996 and now located in Santa Fe, New Mexico provides architectural and site design services, interior design and project master-planning. The studio’s focus is residential design for new homes, additions and renovations, and light commercial projects for retail, office, bank, restaurant, medical and industrial uses.
Regardless of project size or budget I strive for design excellence in producing completed buildings and spaces. Projects are meticulously detailed, thoughtfully ordered and sensitive to the site, the client’s design program and budget. Every effort is made to achieve a client’s unique project expectations and goals through the architect’s personal attention and creativity. A collaborative effort between architect and client will persist throughout all phases of a project.
The design process requires an understanding of the site issues of location, scale, landscape, history, and the availability of potential materials and construction methods. The architect’s knowledge of current technology options in construction, attention to detail, and understanding the project contextually in the surrounding environment result in the best design solutions. A project’s building materials and methods should be employed with honesty, integrity and ecological awareness. I am committed to these practices as well as to designing for building longevity and consideration of the occupants’ health and well-being.
A client’s design program and preferences usually determine the aesthetic look of the finished building and interior spaces, and it is interesting to see how the design process brings this to life. I tend to gravitate toward modern, contemporary architecture but also have a wide range of experience designing for historical and vernacular requirements. In the case of residential or commercial renovation projects, consideration is given to integrate the new with the existing in a complementary, sensible manner.
William Kleinschmidt, Architect has lived and worked in New Mexico since 1979, after achieving a Bachelor of Environmental Design Degree from Texas A&M University. I currently hold architectural licenses in New Mexico and Utah. Projects have been completed in New Mexico, Colorado, Arizona, California and the western United States.
